Teplice water reservoir

I present to you a water reservoir in the city of Teplice in the Czech Republic in a district called Nová Ves. The water reservoir was built between 1987 and 1989. The water reservoir was originally intended to serve 22 thousand residents of the Nová Ves housing estate. The completely new district was intended primarily for people from the municipalities of Proboštov and Chabařovice, which were to give way to brown coal mining. After the change of political regime in November 1989, when the water reservoir was also completed, however, the construction of the housing estate and the liquidation of the municipalities were stopped, and the construction never served its purpose.

The bottom of the upper reservoir with a volume of two thousand cubic meters is at a height of 31 meters above the terrain, its roof is at 43 meters. The lower reservoir has an outer diameter of 41 meters and a volume of four thousand cubic meters. Its bottom is located at a height of 12 meters and its roof is 23 meters above the terrain. The tanks were lifted to the desired position using hydraulics during construction.

Currently, the reservoir is in a kind of reserve state. It is therefore maintained in such a way that if necessary, it can be used for drinking water supply.

The majestic building with the official name Doubravka III. still impresses not only with its height of 50 meters, but also with its atypical appearance with two conical water tanks. The supporting element is a concrete tube, in which the pipeline and access stairs are located.

The structure of the building comes from Hungary, which in the second half of the 20th century supplied the former Czechoslovakia with steel tower water tanks Hydroglobus and Aknaglobus. A very similar water tower can be found in the city of Győr (Marcalvárosi víztorony).

Since 2005, the reservoir has been used as a carrier for antenna systems, which can be added to the tower.
