It is May 26, 1985. Through newly acquired intelligence, the People’s Liberation Army Navy has learned that a Kitty Hawk–class carrier group is operating alarmingly close—within roughly 500 kilometers of Shanghai. With China’s maritime reconnaissance and early-warning systems still in a developmental stage, thus undetected until now. Soviet naval focus in the region was temporarily diverted to other conflict zones. Taking advantage of poor weather patterns and advanced electronic warfare measures, the U.S. task force slipped beneath the radar of both Soviet and Chinese observers. Now that their presence is confirmed, China must move swiftly to neutralize this threat.. Urgent preparations are underway: bombers and fighters are being flown to Shanghai's International Airport, and a Soviet naval force is converging from the southeast to reinforce PLAN assets. Your task is to sink the Kitty Hawk–class carrier while preserving your naval assets. Failure to do so would cripple China’s naval defenses in the region.
