Around 1994, two RE 460 locomotives that had previously been delivered to the Swiss railway administration SBB were in Norway.
These were to be test run ahead of NSB ordering its latest series of locomotives, the El18.
It was Re 460 066-4, named Finse, and Re 460 055-7, named Lillehammer, that were test run in Norway.
Both of these RE 460s have retained their names since they were returned to Switzerland.
The El18 locomotives were ordered by NSB on 27 September 1994 as part of a series of 22 El18 locomotives built by ADtranz and SLM (Schweizerische Lokomotiv und Maschinenfabrik). The locomotive type was put into regular operation after just under two years of construction from 20 September 1996 on the Dovre Line.
On the Bergen Line from 22.09.96.

From March 2009, two locomotives were hired out for a short period to Peterson Rail, for use in timber and chip trains.
El 18 2241, 2244, 2261 and 2262 were leased to CargoNet at the turn of the year 2012/2013.
They ran steadily until December 2013 when 2261 derailed.
All locomotives were parked for a while after the derailment and 2241 and 2244 were returned to NSB.
El 18 2262 was in operation for CargoNet for a few months in the winter/spring of 2014 before it was returned.
El 18 2261 was not used by CargoNet after the derailment.
El 18 was used in freight trains on the Bergen railway.
