Original mod notes (1.4):

Bombardment Raids
A simultaneous bombardment and raid. Shells will be dropped at random anywhere on your map (including your base). Orbital laser death beams will also shot at a lower frequency. At the same time, raiders will drop down randomly and begin assaulting your base. There is an additional chance of a solar flare.

This is intended to be a major, possibly game-ending threat to highly-established bases. You're probably not escaping this unscathed even if you have a god-colony unless your base is burrowed entirely in a mountain.


Conditions
This raid triggers very rarely on well-established bases (raid points > 5000).

You can manually trigger this by interacting with the comms console on a hostile faction.

Heh, not really "quick", other people mentioned it before, but thanks for reporting to bring it back up. I support more than a few mods and it's easy for things to slip through the cracks.

@Zaljerem, is the bombardment meant to get though mountains? I just got hit with one and i figure there would be some spots that got hit but it seem to hit quite a few spaces inside my base which is almost entirely built into a mountain. Are these bunker buster or meant to be like that?

Soviet doctrine of massive assault in all its glory
With mods in the late game this will be a lot of fun (and pain)
By the way, even shields from mods won't stop a sunbeam or laser, but orbital bombardment can be stopped by a metal roof
