Feve Serie 2300

The Ministry of Public Works commissioned the joint purchase of 69 diesel railcars from the German firm MAN, from which they take their nickname, for several narrow-gauge railways. Subsequently, Feve acquired a final batch of 14 trains in 1973, totalling 84 individual motor cars built. In addition, 26 trailer cars with a driver's cabin were acquired to form Motor-Trailer Cabin trains. Except for the Catalan ones, which remained in the hands of FGC and had their own historical trajectory, the Feve trains circulated successfully until it was decided to undertake a reform in them from 1983. The original engine was changed, a driver's cabin was removed from 66 motor cars and they were paired, creating 33 M+M trains, and another 7 trains, also reformed, remained as isolated motor cars. The Feve trailer cars, which were taken out of service with this first reform, were taken to the Ateínsa workshops in 1986 to be transformed into conventional passenger cars of the 5,300 series.
