SS Pasteur

Originally part of the Ocean Liners Pack before the addon became an archive for the retired models.



Here is the SS Pasteur of Sud Atlantique.

Pasteur was built to replace the SS L'Atlantique which was heavily damaged by fire in 1933. She was completed just in time for the outbreak of WW2, but her maiden voyage was cancelled due to the war. She was taken over by the British government and placed under Cunard-White Star management. During the war, she served as a troopship and sometimes a hospital ship. Due to her slow speed, she would normally sail alone as she was unable to keep up with convoys. After the war, she was returned to France and served as a troopship again during the Vietnam War. She was later acquired by the Norddeutscher Lloyd Line and renamed Bremen. She was sold again in 1971, this time to Chandris Cruises as Regina, and became flagship of the company. She was sold to Philippine Singapore Ports Corporation of Saudi Arabia and renamed Saudiphil I in 1977 to become an accommodation ship. In 1980 she was sold to the Philsimport International in Hong Kong and renamed Filipinas Saudi I. While being towed by the Panamanian tug Sumatra to Taiwanese ship breakers in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, she rolled over onto her port side and sank stern first in the Indian Ocean that same year.
