4 Scientists make forbidden experiments.

It is the year 1359 A.L.
For those of you who don't know, A.L. means After Luaq, of course.

Witches have always existed. But there was one, Irmhild, who changed everything.
Irmhild lived behind the hills of the snowy village of Snowbreeze. And it was a thorn in her side when she saw how incompetent the other witches were. They were sent out to haunt the villages and spread terror. But the villagers increasingly fought back and sent their best hunters after them.
Even though Irmhild tried to teach the other witches as much as possible, it wasn't enough.
One day she traveled to Grunewald to study the books in the forbidden section of the famous Grunewald Library, which only a few witches are allowed to visit.
There it was, a ritual to to make other creatures submissive. Exactly what she was looking for.
One evening at dusk, she crept out into a meadow to lie in wait. How peacefully the rabbit sat there, unaware of the danger behind its back.
Clever as Irmhild was, she threw a cage on the animal and took it home with her. There she carried out the ritual exactly as she had read in the library. It was terrible, it was horrible, but it was done! She carefully approached the cage. The creature, which she called luaq, hissed at her until it suddenly looked at her with its kind, big eyes. It had worked, the luaq saw her as its mistress. Great!

Now just the duplication spell, and the other witches could use the luaq to defend themselves against the hunters.
This was the beginning of the luaq era. Witches were finally spreading terror, as they had been doing since the beginning of time.

Back to the year 1359 A.L.
Over the years, word of Irmhild's success had spread to four scientists who lived in a castle not far from Rosemary's Village and its cemetery. They were close friends with the hunters, so it was time to help them.
From time to time, Nils van O was seen walking through the cemetery and bringing ￢ﾀﾜthings￢ﾀﾝ into the castle.
The residents of Rosemary's Village had stopped wondering what and why.

Nils van O threw the seperated foot of a dead resident onto the kitchen table on which Christopherus von Rien had just prepared the meal (pizza with chicken). ￢ﾀﾜFor heaven's sake,￢ﾀﾝ he shouted and had to choke. ￢ﾀﾜWhy are you even bringing this here? The other 27 attempts didn't work.￢ﾀﾝ And he put himself in the sink behind him.

￢ﾀﾜHey, he made it!￢ﾀﾝ shouted Lucius Malzen. ￢ﾀﾜHe has made it, made it, made it!￢ﾀﾜ
￢ﾀﾞWhat? Who did what?￢ﾀﾝ asked Nils van O.

Thia de Mina stood in the doorway and watched the scene. Meanwhile, the experiment was examining the seperated leg on the kitchen table. Christopherus was throwing up again.
She wondered how they had managed to get this far. Yes, the experiments hadn't worked, but it was a start. A start to make the hunters stronger, maybe.
￢ﾀﾜHey guys,￢ﾀﾝ said Thia. ￢ﾀﾜConcentrate on the work! Today is the only day in 527 years that it could work.￢ﾀﾝ She turned and went to the basement, leaving the chaos in the kitchen behind. She walked past the 27 experiments, some of which were still alive. If one could speak of living at all. There was experiment number 11, a leg and an arm from a witch, the rest of a hunter. The creature kept running around in circles, the dead Luaq in the corner.
Experiment no. 17 had pink fur, the face of a witch, the body of a hunter. Unfortunately, the brain had not quite survived the procedure. Sometimes she thought the creature was winking at her.
And in the cell at the very end sat Karl ...

Thia heard noise from the kitchen and went back upstairs. Experiment No. 3, Lucius' pet, ran past her with the severed leg in its mouth. Lucius was all excited ￢ﾀﾜSoon he'll be able to fetch sticks, or legs, never mind.￢ﾀﾝ and ran past her too.

She entered the kitchen, Christopherus still green in the face. Nils van O asked, ￢ﾀﾜWhat are we going to do now?￢ﾀﾝ
￢ﾀﾜWe'll meet in the lab in an hour and I'll explain everything again.￢ﾀﾝ She turned around, could it really work? she asked herself.

￢ﾀﾜI don't think that's right,￢ﾀﾝ Christopherus said after Thia explained the next steps.
Thia rolled her eyes ￢ﾀﾜWhat's the problem with that now. The other 27 experiments" ... ￢ﾀﾜPets,￢ﾀﾝ Lucius interjected, ￢ﾀﾝweren't a problem either.￢ﾀﾝ ￢ﾀﾜThey were already kind of dead before" said Christopherus. And now Karl the Potato, one of the best hunters in the country, is down in the cellar ....￢ﾀﾝ
￢ﾀﾜThere's no other way,￢ﾀﾝ replied Thia. ￢ﾀﾜWe have to strengthen the hunters, and the only way to do that is to perform the ritual today.￢ﾀﾝ
￢ﾀﾜIt's not right,￢ﾀﾝ Christopherus said again. ￢ﾀﾜIt's never been done before.￢ﾀﾝ
￢ﾀﾜThat's why we're the first to do it,￢ﾀﾝ said Thia. ￢ﾀﾜCrossing a hunter with a Luaq.￢ﾀﾝ

It was beginning to get dark outside and the thunderstorm could be heard rolling in in the distance.

￢ﾀﾜNils￢ﾀﾝ ordered Thia ￢ﾀﾝgo and get Karl and a Luaq, it's starting.￢ﾀﾜ

Karl, the potato was shaking all over. Unbelievable that he should be the best hunter, Thia thought to herself.
He was strapped into a device, the Luaq next to him.
￢ﾀﾜWhat happens next?￢ﾀﾝ asked Lucius, his pet behind him.
￢ﾀﾜWhen the clock strikes 11.23 p.m., a lightning bolt hits the device, we have to recite this spell and pour this elixir over both of them at the same time,￢ﾀﾝ Thia explained.
Christopherus looked a little pale again.

11.22 p.m.
￢ﾀﾜGet ready,￢ﾀﾝ called Thia.

And then it happened.

Lightning struck and instantly a flame burst forth, immediately igniting the roof, explosions and screams could be heard.
Nils, Christopher and Lucien were thrown into a corner and struggled to get up again.
￢ﾀﾜThia? Where is Thia?￢ﾀﾝ asked Christopherus. His gaze fell on the device with the fried potato, sorry, with the dead Karl, the potato. The Luaq had disappeared.
￢ﾀﾜThia,￢ﾀﾝ he called out again.

Thia was standing in the middle of the room with her back to them.

￢ﾀﾜThia, are you all right? The experiment didn't work,￢ﾀﾝ said Christopherus.
