Caralan - Railgun Refit

"As part of the APF fleet's many modernization programs the Caralan class of cruisers were planned to be universally upgraded with newer more powerful main guns and further enhanced AA. However due to budget restraints only the Caralan herself would receive the upgrade before the RBN invaded APF space with a second cruiser undergoing the refit at time of invasion. The upgrade to the Caralans primary feature is exchanging the 5 artillery turrets for 4 new medium mk4 railgun turrets. The secondary assault cannon batteries are also exchanged for heavy duty octouple gatling PDCs to bolster the AA capability of the cruiser. These upgrades make the Caralan a formidable foe in longer range engagements due to its ability to defend against long range missiles while responding in kind with its battery of railguns."
