The general idea is probably sound, i.e. that parts of Wales are so remote and rural that farmers go out to the fields at night, find Dolly, and give her a dollop. This is in contrast to the traditional passtime of the English, which is beating their wives, and the Scottish, which is beating each other.
However, I have heard mention that another origin came from a much older time when England had its pink-fleshed meaty grip around Wales' throat such to the point that, should a Welshman be found guilty of stealing sheep, he'd be executed. Therefore, the defence was natural. No, officer. I wasn't _stealing_ the sheep. I was having sex with it.
How true is this? I'm not sure and it's not something I have the lack of wisdom to actively search for. But it's still funny.
And I am absolutely still subscribing to this mod, your opinions be damned.
