GADstorm is a COMM-BAT mapset that takes Rise of the Triad level design to staggering new heights. Years in the making, each GADstorm level is intricate and intense, thoroughly playtested, and designed around features never before seen in ROTT. There are 17 levels in total.

Some of the new level designs and features include:

• Portals
  
• Inverting levels by hitting touchplates
  
• Complex 3D structures
  
• Multistory buildings (without using elevators)
  
• Teleporters
  
• Unlimited areas over areas
  
• Infinite stairways
  
• Levels fought in 3D aerial space
  
• Overlapping tunnels
  
• Items and weapons directly underneath GADs
  
• Situational jump pads (jump pads with variable heights)
  
• Entire levels rising and falling
  
• Overlapping bridgeways
  
• Class systems (à la Team Fortress)
  
• A faithful recreation of Unreal Tournament's Facing Worlds

None of these levels required any alteration to the source code. They simply utilize level editing tricks discovered over years of trial and error. All of these levels could have worked back in 1995. All of these levels are compatible with every version of ROTT.

24 years ago I started working on this project for a few years, then I put it on a 20 year hiatus. When ROTT: Ludicrous Edition released, I returned to the project, which I now present to the world.

How Can I Play GADstorm?
ROTT: Ludicrous Edition still doesn't currently have a streamlined mechanism for playing custom Comm-Bat mapsets, so you're going to have to jump through a bit of hoops. Trust me, it will be worth it.

First and most importantly, the game can't run custom .rtcx files (which all custom Comm-Bat mapsets on Steam Workshop are), but it can run .rtc files. Before even downloading ”GADstorm.rtcx”, you will need a way to convert .rtcx to .rtc files.

You can do that by downloading erysdren's RTLX2RTL converter here[git.erysdren.me].

Once you have downloaded the RTLX2RTL converter:

1. Subscribe to this mapset to download ”GADstorm.rtcx”.
   
2. Once it's downloaded, navigate to your Workshop folder for RoTT:LE and run a search for ”GADstorm.rtcx”
   (Typically “C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\1421490” under Windows.)
   
3. Drag that file onto ”rtlx2rtl.exe”.
   
4. ”GADstorm.rtc” should appear.
   
5. Copy ”GADstorm.rtc” into RoTT:LE's “assets” folder
   (Typically “C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Rise of the Triad - Ludicrous Edition\assets” under Windows.)
   
6. In the Steam App, go to your Library.
   
7. Right-click Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition and click on “Properties...”
   
8. In the “General” tab under “Launch Options” type:
   
   -filertc GADstorm.rtc

The next time you launch Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition, GADstorm levels will load during COMM-BAT. This method works provided all players follow the same steps and use the same mapset. And the good news is that the game remembers your setup unless you manually change it again for another mapset.
