The islands of eternal spring

NATO dominance in the mediterranean and pacific has made the soviets consider alternative points of interest to strenghten their naval capabilities and range. High command of the soviet Navy has decided to launch an amphibious assault on the Canary Islands in order to establish a strongpoint to contest the south atlantic, launch raids on western europe and improve their capability to aid in the defense of Cuba.We must defend the islands at all costs.
Canary Islands state:
A few NATO assets have been established near the islands but not enough to prevent the soviets from landing if their fleet isn't intercepted. We have two Radar/SAM Sites in Madeira to intercept an incoming air raid. There is a small air base in Gran Canaria that has received both old and new planes from Spain and the United States to help in the defense. Two F-15 Squadrons are flying from Gibraltar to help but they'll need to refuel in our airfield before seeing action.
Enemy Forces:
The main soviet task force consist of the TAVKR Tbilisi aircraft carrier and six vessels: 2x Kanin-Class, 2x Kara-Class, 1x Krivak 1, 1x Krivak 2.
We don't have exact intel about the landing force, it is suspected that it consists of at least two vessels for its defense and 3 or 4 Alligator-class LST's

Friendly Naval Forces:
-O.H Perry SF: 1x Oliver Hazard Perry, 2x Kidd class, 3x Ticonderoga class.
-Flying Fish SSN-673 (Sturgeon class attack submarine).
-NRP Albacora (Albacora class patrol submarine)

Mission Objectives:
Primary Objectives:
-Sink the Soviet landing ships before they reach Tenerife.
-Destroy the main soviet task force.

Operational Considerations:
-main soviet task force is vastly superior to our O.H Perry SF. If we try to intercept it before it's damaged we risk losing all our ships
-SSN-673 is on an intercept course with the main enemy SF and it's our most valuable asset in this mission
-consider using at least 1x RA-5C recon plane over Madeira to gather intel about the enemy force position. Use the SAM cover to your advantage.
-Our F1C planes are capable of inflicting serious damage on the soviets but we must use them alongside our EA-6 Prowlers to guarantee successful attacks.

Mission Difficulty: Very Hard

Additional considerations:

-the only reason the two F1C squadrons are flying at the start of the mission is because you can't add airplanes to airbases at the moment (as far as I know). you can RTB them inmediatly as usual if you want to use them later.




KNOWN BUGS:

-for some reason the Sturgeon tries to suface despite the fact it is defined as submerged very deep in the mission editor. just give it the order to dive and that's it

- the airbase can get bugged if there's a lot of planes trying to land and take off at the same time. it's rare but it can happen. This is a known game bug. to prevent it, give time to the squadrons to land and never land more than 4 planes at the same time
