Sink the Kirov!

May 1985. Anxious to escape the cul-de-sac that is the Baltic, the Soviet navy is sortieing the Kirov and her screen. Your mission is to stop this battlegroup from escaping into the North Atlantic and beyond. Satellite reconnaissance shows the Kirov battlegroup passed the Skaggerak and entered the North Sea. Her most probable course will be to turn Northeast and head to Murmansk, although a westward turn toward Iceland is not impossible.

The Warsaw Pact has not occupied Norway yet, they cannot sortie long range aircraft easily deep into the Atlantic. As a result you can expect minimal enemy aircraft presence. Ignore any air traffic over the UK. The Soviets are expecting air attacks from the UK, and have heavily engaged the NATO air forces stationed there.

Take caution against the high likelihood of Soviet submarines. Not long before the Kirov left port several Soviet submarines were seen departing their berths in the Baltic ports and heading into the North Sea.

In addition, heading southwest along the Norwegian coast is the USS Augusta, a Los Angeles class SSN. It will be at your disposal.
