The Atlantic Ocean. October 1978.

USS Trepang (SSN-674), one of the most advanced submarines in the US Navy is missing. It is believed she has been hijacked and is heading eastward to possibly defect to the Soviets.

Your boat, USS Skipjack (SSN-585), is the only one currently in position to catch up with her before she leaves the shallow waters of the continental shelf and vanishes into the deep of the Atlantic. You must stop USS Trepang before she falls into Communist hands.

Believe it or not, this scenario is (very loosely) based on real events. In October 1978, the FBI arrested 3 men on charges of conspiring to steal the USS Trepang, based in New London, Ct. The FBI discovered the plot when 2 of the accused conspirators, contacted an undercover agent seeking funds for training and supplies. After stealing the submarine, the conspirators intended to kill the crew, put out to sea, and rendezvous with an unidentified buyer. What if they had succeeded?

Notes: USS Trepang is of a more advanced design than your old Skipjack, she’s quieter, better armed, has better sensors, and can dive deeper. But, of course, you're smarter than the AI. Don't you?
