"Pulau, a small group of Indonesian islands northeast of the Riau Archipelago, has become a hotspot in the South China Sea disputes. Long neglected by the Indonesian government, Pulau’s residents face poor infrastructure and limited opportunities, fueling resentment. When China’s "nine-dash line" claims extended into the region, a separatist group, Pulau Merdeka, gained support by blaming Jakarta for the islands’ struggles. Rumored to be backed by China, the group has grown increasingly aggressive, launching attacks and calling for independence.

To address the threat, Indonesia launched Operation Darah Biru (Blue Blood), deploying its military to restore order and secure the islands. Meanwhile, ASEAN continues to dispute China’s claims, but tensions remain high as the situation develops."
