Daphne Patrol

October 1973. Near Brest (France).

You're the captain of a French Daphne Class diesel-electric powered submarine part of the "Escadrille de sous-marins de l'Atlantique" (Atlantic Submarine Squadron) on patrol off the Roadstead of Brest to protect 'L'Ile Longue', homeport of the ballistic missile nuclear-powered submarines (SSBN) of the French Navy. The world is on the brink of WWIII as there have been several serious incidents between NATO and Soviet naval forces in the Atlantic and the Med. Our 'Groupe Aeronaval' (Carrier Air Group) has been dispatched to assist but our forces are stretched thin. International tension is at its peak and our SSBN 'Le Redoutable' is to set sail shortly as part of our Nuclear Deterrence Policy.

However, there is a suspicion that some Soviet submarines are operating in the area. We cannot let them track and spy on our SSBN. You must clear the area of any hostile presence. However, you must exercise upmost caution, do not engage repeat do not engage unless in self-defense, and remember there is heavy civilian traffic in the area. You'll be supported by a SA312 Super Frelon helicopter from Lanveoc Naval Air Station with a single load of two ASW torpedoes.

Note: Sadly, there is only a limited number of French assets in the vanilla game at the moment, so you only have a diesel-submarine and a helo (with Iraqi markings) at your disposal. This is a small but challenging scenario: be prepared to face better armed and faster hostile submarines.
