How to play in VR
This guide will be relatively informative and help you play this game in VR with some very lite Touch Controller support!

THE GAME MUST BE CLOSED BEFORE YOU BEGIN

What's required?

PLEASE NOTE: THIS MOD IS NOT ENTIRELY STABLE, AND DOES NOT USE THE VR CONTROLLERS FULLY

Now then, the first thing you'll want to do is:
  1. download the praydog/UEVR modkit [github.com] onto your PC.

  2. Then extract the zip files contents to a folder of your choosing!

  3. Next, go to the UEVR Profiles website [uevr-profiles.com] and in the search field, search for "The Outlast Trials" and click on the game's listing.

  4. You should now see 1 profile, download the one by Flat2VR. It should download as TOTClient-Win64-Shipping.zip.

    DO NOT EXTRACT
  5. Locate and launch the file named UEVRInjector.exe. It's the mod injector you downloaded earlier!
  6. Upon opening the injector, navigate to the leftmost side of the window, and you'll see an option labelled "Import Config", click it.

  7. In the file browser window that opened, locate and double click the file named TOTClient-Win64-Shipping.zip that you had downloaded earlier.

  8. This will now open the zip file in yet another window, you can safely disregard this window and close it, the config is now imported!
  9. You will now want to set this app to always launch to run as Administrator. Close the injector.
  10. Right click on UEVRInjector.exe and go click on "Properties".
  11. Navigate to the "Compatibility" tab.
  12. Toggle the check box under "Settings" to "Run this program as an administrator".
  13. Click "Apply".

If this doesn't work, simply just right click and run as Administrator.
  14. You should now connect your VR headset of choice.
  15. Launch SteamVR.
  16. Launch The Outlast Trials.
DO NOT GO INTO VR JUST YET
  17. Launch your UEVRInjector.exe.
  18. Under the "Inject" window, you should notice a drop-down menu.

  19. Locate and click on the process labelled "TOTClient-Win64-Shipping (pid: 11900) (The Outlast Trials )".
  20. Click "Inject"

And there you have it, you are now ready to play The Outlast Trials in VR!!!

And if you ever want to come back and play again, all you have to do is repeat steps 14-20

Hmmmm, your PC should be good enough to do it, it may be software side. Recreating all of the steps on my PC (RTX 4070 | Ryzen 5 3600 | 16 Gb), it runs well, and even more so on my upgraded setup (RTX 4070 | Ryzen 7 5700X3D | 32 Gb), so I'm not sure what would be keeping it from working aside from MSI Afterburner, that tends to not play well with VR.

As far as your performance goes, I think a tweak in the graphic setting could drastically help. After all, your GPU now needs to render up to 3 images (1 for each lens in the headset and 1 for your monitor), so in games that run flawlessly when playing flat, will require quite a bit more power when injecting this mod so turning some stuff down and disabling raytracing should be effective. As for the format, do you mean the image appears squished or stretched? If so, then adjusting your display settings SHOULD help, in theory anyway. I had the same issue in the Resident Evil VR mods where the image would be squished, and switching between fullscreen and fullscreen borderless mitigated the problem.

Straight up can’t get this to work properly, I suspect it’s step 14-20 but my game either runs at god awful frames or when it does run okay it’s in the complete wrong format. I’ve done almost everything I can think of even mixing and matching steps 14-20 but can’t get it to work, seems no one has bothered to post a guide besides you so I’m not getting much progress.

I don't know, it'd be interesting if you could, honestly I don't see why not

Is there a way to use VR headset only for looking around, but still control via keyboard and mouse?
