The A Stock was the first fleet of trains acquired by the São Paulo Metropolitan Company and the first underground train in Brazil. It was built by The Budd Company in the US, with final assembly by Mafersa in Brazil. The first trains entered testing in 1971 and started commercial operations in 1974. In 2018, the last train was taken out of service for modernization.
