Installation 04 with Better Friendly AI

About the Mod:
This mod is quite simple: all it does is improve the friendly AI on Reach's Installation 04 Firefight (FF) map. And fix some bugs. It does not touch any other aspect of Reach's gameplay, even if I would like to address and/or "fix" it. This mod uses my enhanced Reach friendly AI (found here: https://www.nexusmods.com/halothemasterchiefcollection/mods/2076. Note that the assets on the mod page might not be up to date.) to achieve its main goal.

Now for why this mod exists: I've always found the Installation 04 Firefight map to be disappointing. Its premise of being the first (official) FF map with friendly AI is interesting. And it being set in the iconic cliff standoff in Halo 1 is cool. However, I've always felt the friendly AI brought the map down with it. To be quite frank, Halo Reach's friendly AI is horrendous and awful to fight with. They're barely even set pieces: dying super fast, being extremely stupid, having poor damage output, being very slow, and more. Their only real boon is being able to be traded with, and that's nothing new. I'd always like to turn off the friendly AI (by turning off hazards... somewhat ironic) on this map because the friendlies and their stupidity greatly harmed my enjoyment of the map. Well, it's time I right the "wrong" that I got my false hopes ups for back in 2011. It's time to redeem Installation 04's biggest flaw: the craptastic friendly AI.

I hope that I succeeded in making the friendly AI more competent without being too gamebreaking. I hope you have fun playing the map with them and that I succeeded in what I set out to do. Do feel free to give me feedback, suggestions, and more: I'd like to hear them. And if you know of any vanilla Reach bugs, I'd be willing to fix them as well.

Summary of Changes:
  • Friendly AI are, of course, improved quite a lot. They have a greater will to live, take cover more and better, act more lively, are more competent, act more tactical, and more.
  • Friendlies have more health and even gain more on higher difficulties. They start with Reach's higher ODST health (Rather than use the Troopers') and go up from there. They are somewhat harder to stun and regenerate health faster. However, they only regenerate up to 75% health, instead of all of it.
  • Friendlies are more competent with human weapons and no longer lose damage as they continue their bursts with them or just in general on higher difficulties. They still keep a damage debuff, though. They generally use Halo 4's better human weapon firing patterns.
  • Friendlies have greater max ranges with certain weapons. They throw grenades more and farther.
  • Restored several behaviors to friendly AI lost in the transition from Halo 3 to Reach. Including the ability to run searches.
  • The ODSTs on the structure can move around properly (instead of mostly standing still) and will respawn lost people every round.
  • Added in some female ODSTs that can randomly spawn.
  • Etc.

@Ωmeggga View them more as a more intelligent distraction than anything. I guess. Maybe they could be buffed more, but there's a fine line. Not changing Reach's base gameplay (trust me, I have lots of issues with it) outside of friendlies means that if I buff them too much, you lose that "uphill battle against the Covenant" feeling. I guess. And Firefight is generally a mode where you're outmatched anyways. If more people think the friendlies need to be buffed, I'll look into it. But your allies are more supposed to do better against the fodder like Grunts, Jackals, and Skirmishers while losing to the heavy hitters like Brutes and Elites.

It's very cool and the odsts are actually smarter but if you're playing solo they still get hammered by elites and die quickly. Sad tbh.
