Umanosuke Ueda

'The Golden Wolf' Umanosuke Ueda was one of Japan's earliest heels; a prototype to the tried-and-tested foreign heel gimmick that would shape the Wrestling landscape.

Inside the ring, Ueda played the role of a despicable villain; going against Japanese societal norms by bleaching his hair blonde, becoming the first 'traitor heel' in Japan, and engaging in-all out warfare against national hero Antonio Inoki.

While Ueda's career started within the Rikidozan-created JWA, it was Ueda's partnership with hated heel Tiger Jeet Singh that allowed to duo to become the first tag team to hold championships in both New Japan and All Japan Pro-Wrestling.

To this day, Ueda's influence continues to be felt in the wrestling world with wrestlers such as Tatsutoshi Goto, Mr. Gannosuke, Taro and EVIL all being inspired by Ueda's contributions.
