The Vesperian

Beskrivning
-={ First spring update }=-
We recieved so much endorsements and acceptance from you, people, we want to thank you very much! Your kind words give us motivation to do everything we can for you, for the Starbound community as a whole, and for the reputation of lil batatos c:

It's middle of April, which means, it's time to climb out of winter hibernation. And first of all, we're getting back to working on this mod (at least, trying to), and now we can show you the first small update: Custom armor. We'll try to make updates small, but simplier to polish, as making everything at once proved to be too.. long. So, please, try and tell us, what's your opinion on the update!

An alien race of chiropterans is finally here!

Vesperian folk live in caves and forests. They have wings and use them to jump, glide and fly. Their diet consists of fruits and insects, they are good hunters by nature, but prefer farming as main provision supply. Their culture resembles that of Byzantine empire of the ancient Earth, purely coincidentally. They worship light and harmony, and often make great musicians and singers. Craftsmanship is also not foreign to them; they can forge metals and make alloys.

Yep, space bats. Because why not? Bats are cute and underestimated.

Currently the mod is mostly in complete state, yet some things are to be added in the future.

Contains:
- Custom race with custom appearance and sounds;
- Probably the longest name list for the generator I've ever seen, all thanks to Korrafox;
- Custom racial armor;
- Some custom clothes;
- Custom ship (boy it took long);
- Custom objects and items (some);
- Custom S.A.I.L.
- Custom respawn animation.

To be added:
- More furniture;
- More weapons than two swords and plumbata;
- More blocks and tiles;
- Accessible ship top deck;
- Custom dialogues and reactions;
- More in-game lore;
- Dungeons! certainly.

Current list of face type references:
- Parti-coloured bat (Vespertilio murinus) two types;
- Common noctule (Nyctalus noctula);
- Common vampire bat (Desmodus rotundus) two types;
- Brown long-eared bat (Plecotus auritus);
- Honduran white bat (Ectophylla alba);
- Townsend's big-eared bat (Corynorhinus townsendii) two types;
- Lesser horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus hipposideros);
- Greater spear-nosed bat (Phyllostomus hastatus);
- Spectral bat (Vampyrum spectrum) two types;
- Ghost bat (Macroderma gigas);
- Brazilian big-eyed bat (Chiroderma doriae) two types;
- Pallas's long-tongued bat (Glossophaga soricina);
- Long-snouted bat (Platalina genovensium);
- Wrinkle-faced bat (Centurio senex);
- Egyptian slit-faced bat (Nycteris thebaica);
- Desert long-eared bat (Otonycteris hemprichii);
- Common pipistrelle (Pipistrellus pipistrellus).

And no, it's not connected with Vesperians from Deepwoken, we didn't even know about the existence of such a game before your mentions in the comments. The name for the race was taken from Vespertilionidae family of microbats.

I have lots of credits to give for all the works and creators, without whom this mod wouldn't be possible...

Thanks to Oмεяυıп, the mod is finally fully supported with Race Traits! Among other, Vesperians have less health, but higher energy and energy regeneration comparing to vanilla. You can look up full changes in the document, link on the main mod page.

Huge thanks to vampycat237 for making awesome Crylik race, which was the main inspiration for this mod and the main reference for the sprites. Also it uses crylanoid.config to customize sprite animations and character behaviour, namely flight.

This mod is made with Skittles Basic Race Template by DrPvtSkittles.

Mod is fully compatible with Flower Crowns by blind_wind.

Also, credits go to these people for the different sprites and artwork used:
Broinkus (Draconis Race)
Cyan Sky Knight (The Saturnians)
LimitedListener (Dramatic deaths)
swarmdruid and Fafnya (Cutebound vampires)
graycatgrayhat (Logistics Frigate)
Kais (Placeable Dynamic FTL Drive)
WeebWing (Galaxy_in_Conflict)
And others whom I might forgot to mention

As always, please, feel free to report all the bugs and inconveniences that may appear.

I figured out what my issue is! I for some reason assumed you could apply statuses based on species in vanilla, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I am going to refactor what I was working with to work using Race Traits universal status applier once I figure out how that works. But for now, I'm going to take a break from this "issue".

Okay, after deciding I'd fix the problem myself with absolutely no experience in SB modding, I've come back to report: Absolute failure.

So I see you implemented the flight via the innate species multi-jump peram, which makes sense and is very easy to implement. Sadly this left me to try and write a bad species patch file with a lua script to apply an effect that drains your energy after a certain amount of jumps without touching the ground. (Rather than being able to just slip an energy drain into the multi-jump if you'd used a tech or something.)

I feel like I got the patch structure/mod structure correct, and my lua is actually decent. Reading the docs it feels like it should work, but it isn't and I'm getting no errors, and logging didn't really help. Not sure quite what I'm doing wrong, but I've developed a headache here so I'm going to stop trying and leave it to someone who understands SB a little better and probably knows a better way to implement this than me.

I read vesperian and at first glance I thought it was the Deepwoken race lol

Infinite flight out of the gate is a little too strong for my multiplayer mod setup, but with a small tweak (like making each subsequent jump after the first two or so cost energy) this would be perfect. Unfortunately, I don't know how to do that myself. So if anyone reads this or has the same feeling, I would love to see a patch/companion mod to address that issue.

Easily tied for favorite race
No bias
Hyperdino 29 aug @ 14:28
Do Vesperians have essentially infinite jump? Bc if so, that's so cool.

@Bullitt Yep, it's totally okay! Please do, we'll be glad to see it!

Hi, I was thinking about making a Frackin' Universe race traits/BYOS compatibility mod for this species.

I just wanna know if I have your permission to release this mod, publicly on the workshop?
