Play as a revamped Sandbert with custom AI. This character can be used as a template to make your own Workshop characters with custom AI.

Sandbert returns to Rivals of Aether with a new lease of artificial life thanks to him sporting an entirely custom AI. This AI was created by PJ, known for his work on Wally and Bhadra and also the creator of some of the best AI in the entire Workshop on characters like Madeline, Knuckles, Kumaki, Smash Mario and more.

Now his AI techniques have been implemented on this Sandbert and you are free to install them on your own character. Check out the _readme.gml file or the Discussion threads for AI installation instructions.

This Sandbert has also been rebalanced and given a slight moveset adjustment, replacing his previous Up Special with an upwards shine which doesn't quite have the same recovery range but still goes very far, with a few additional features like a playtest changelog, originally created by Hyuponia, a gold shimmer effect and some of the hurt sprites missing from the original Sandbert added to the character, in addition to a few quality of life features as seen in Tester.

I should probably mention this template got updated with bug fixes and a tweak to AI. Fair actually works now

That is very strange. Are you sure you aren't copying the downloaded version of the character into your files?

I tried using this to make a character and it just gave me the normal sandbert files. the character when downloaded has the same up special as it's told in this, but when i try and make my character, it just uses normal sandbert's up special. srry if this is hard to understand

Thanks, a few of these I had but didn't fight them as cpus since you expect them all to be basic.

At the moment, in addition to the ones listed that I know of, the original Knight has a very good CPU, the characters Lonin, Lukastar, Lucario, Noelle, Flo and Twilight Sparkle all have top tier AI (theirs differs though), Goku by Muno as well as Naruto and Perfect Cell by Doctor Flux have advanced AI but those are mainly lifted from PJ'S stuff, as as my characters and any characters I was involved in a collab with (so Lilac, Carol, Kel, Yooka-Laylee, Neera, Kaiba and Lea). Sprite rip Kirby has a very advanced AI as does Kris, the former of the two has been used in the likes of Geno and Incineroar. The Lukaru AI is also on the likes of The Noise, Kiku and Pastelle DE.

Hopefully more characters to come if this template makes it easier for devs to put advanced AI on their characters.

@Aperson Glad to know. If you don't mind, could you list any other workshop characters with the harder AI implemented? I mostly play against the CPU since the workshop online is still pretty trash, so solo is where I get most of my replayability. Anglara is probably the only other custom AI i can name off the top of my head that aren't Sai characters, but she isn't that hard.

@neurosis51 If you ever find yourself against really hard AI it was either made by PJ or Lukaru or it was reused from another character whose AI was made by them yeah.

Oh, so PJ is the one who makes all the actually smart and challenging AI workshop characters. I enjoy all the ones you listed, but haven't tried out smash mario yet. Someone should make a collection of hard CPU AI (not the blatantly cheating ones though that break the rules)

It's entirely up to the original developers if they want to include this AI on their characters, this is just providing the service.

maybe a reworked pepperman AI? he seems to ignore his regular special a lot
