The Defense of Hel

描述
September 21st, 1939. The beginning of the season Autumn—and ironically, the beginning of our fall. On August 26th, August 28th, and on August 29th, the effects of Operation Himmler reached the cores of German-Polish tensions. Several "incidents" happened between the two nations—ones that the Germans started. At 4:20 AM, the sirens were heard as German bombers reign down thunder on Hel, Gdynia and Gdansk. 10 minutes later, a Sturzkampfgesch bomber struck hell on a bridge in Tczew. And then, we were alerted—a war has begun. The SMS Schleswig-Holstein had attacked Westerplatte in Gdyina, starting the first battle of the invasion of Poland. The German Tenth Army began its operations into Central Poland at the same time—Morka, Krzepice, Starokrzepice destroyed by the German menace. At 11:30 AM, September 1st, Hel was bombed. On September 11th-12th, we built several minefields near Hel and the Gulf of Gdynia. Hel was a naval port that was built in 1931 near Gdansk—while also being one of the more defended regions of the Polish coastline. It was equiped with anti-tank, anti-air, several Border Defense Corps (KOP), and artillery. We've stationed around 2800 troops in the Hel peninsula—although understrength, and won't last around a month without supplies. We also gained troops once Gdynia was retreated from.
