The AKM was created in 1959 to replace the old AK-47 which was powerfull , but really heavy and ... Old :D (production of AK-47 begun in 1949 , but the first prototype made by Kalashnikov is from 1943 ) .


The AK-47 is an assault rifle (Not one of the first assault rifle at all) whose first drawing was created by Mikhail Kalashnikov in 1943 . In 1945 , he tries to show authorities what is his new semi-automatic rifle , in fact the AK-45 , but they finally accepted the SKS 45 , for Simonov . in 1946 , he takes a look at StG-44 , and find the caliber great . He finally tooks part of the SKS system , which was based on the US-M1 Carbine (based on the M1 Garand) ,and designed, in 1947 , the AK-47 .


We all know AK-47 has a lot of variants , like AK-47M , AK-47N , AKS-47 ,CK-47 .... but when the AKM was designed , it was a really better gun : AKM is lighter than 1 kg while charged , has a pratical range 2 x longer ... But they found 7,62x39 ''M43'' was a bit too heavy compared to the first Colt M16 Rifle . They created the 5,45x39 mm , which was adapted to the AKM , to create .. the AK-74 . and they finally created SVD , RPK(47-74) , and PKM , on the AKM Base .
