My take on the Sturmpanzer IV or Sd.Kfz. 166 Stupa / Brummbär. This one has added Schürzen (spaced armour) to add more protection from AP rounds.

This is the third version with the driver's vision slit replaced by a periscope and the lighter version of the Sturmhaubitze (StuH) 43/1 L/12 150 mm howitzer (8 HE guns). The gun is still massive in game of course.

It's an approximation, not a 1:1 replica.

The howitzer kept glitching if I made the opening in the armour narrower, even if it wasn't actually touching so the opening is a bit wide. I added some moving armour at the botton to compensate when the howitzer is elevated.
The gunner's sight should really be raise through the front left hatch, and I made a version that showed gun eleveation as well as traverse with some precision, but it was to bulky and messy and wouldn't fit through the small hatch (and using actuator on actuator to raise and turn it meant the precision wasn't there anymore) so I replaced it with a periscope the follows the gun's traverse, and an indicator inside to show gun elevation. Remember that this is a self-propelled artillery piece, not a self-propelled anti-tank gun, so quick precision aiming isn't the goal.

- It has a crew of five: driver, commander, gunner, loader and loader/radio operator.
- The real gun could traverse +/-10 degrees but this one only +/-8.
- Gun elevation is the correct -5/+30 degrees though.
- Maximum range at 30 degrees elevation is 2,700 meters.
- Minimum range at -5 degrees elevation is 20 meters.
- Range at 20 degrees elevation is 1,400 meters.
- Top speed is 40 kph.

Information from Wikipedia (somewhat edited)

************
The Sturmpanzer, also known as Sturmpanzer 43 or Sd.Kfz. 166, was a German armoured infantry support gun based on the Panzer IV chassis. It was used at the Battles of Kursk, Anzio, Normandy, and was deployed in the Warsaw Uprising. It was known by the nickname Brummbär (German for Grumbling Bear or Grouch) by Allied intelligence, a name which was however not used by the Germans. German soldiers nicknamed it the "Stupa", a contraction of the term Sturmpanzer. Just over 300 vehicles were built and they were assigned to four independent battalions.

The Sturmpanzer was a development of the Panzer IV tank and designed to provide direct infantry fire support, especially in urban areas. It used a Panzer IV chassis with the upper hull and turret replaced by a new casemate-style armoured superstructure housing a new gun, the 15-centimetre (5.9 in) Sturmhaubitze (StuH) 43/1 L/12. Thirty-eight rounds, with separate propellant cartridges, could be carried.

Zimmerit coating protecting form magnetic mines was applied to all vehicles until September 1944, but there is no good way to represent that in the game.

Controls
Its an one person crew version for now so the main gun is controlled from the driver's seat. I might make a multi-crew version (driver and gunner can both control the gun) once the "seat-blocking-controls-via-sensors" bug has been solved when 1.6 releases.

Driver's seat.
WASD: Drive.
Alt + Arrow keys / Mouse: Gun traverse and elevation.
Fire action 1/Num 1: Fire howitzer. *
L/Headlights: Headlights.

Camera 1: Driver's periscope.
Camera 2: Gun traverse.

* Real reload time was about 20 seconds but I made it 14. Lights near the driver will indicate when the gun is ready to fire; red - reloading, green - ready.

All hatches are operated with switches on or near them.
The spanner for wheel changes can be removed with the detonator, as can the spare wheels in the back.
