Two things you can do:

1) When in a battle go to your menu > options > interface, the first option on the right to edit is "UI scale" you can drag that slider bar right or left to adjust how big or small the windows and display is. All the way left is the smallest size.

2) When in a battle and those boxes open up simply press "I" on your keyboard till they cease to open. If it still opens then press "I" again till it stops opening when you hover over the unit.

Yes, every time the mouse pointer passes through the unit it covers half a screen in full combat
