A Challenging Journey

描述
A Challenging Journey
Do you enjoy the grind-reducing aspects of Journey mode but wish it didn't trivialize so many aspects of the game? Have you ever wanted the convenience of infinite crafting materials without feeling quite so much like you are cheating?

That's the experience this mod aims to provide, overhauling Journey mode to be more of an alternative way of playing the game rather than an overpowered godmode. Instead of having everything you could ever want in the first ten minutes, A Challenging Journey requires you to earn many of the game's resources while still allowing you to have an infinite supply once you do.
(Disclaimer: Actual godmode is still available in this version of the mod, so you will require some self-control)

Features
No infinite money!
The mod's banner feature. Coins cannot be researched, and any item that can be researched can't be sold for money. This doesn't affect purchase or reforge costs, meaning money is now a meaningful resource in Journey mode.

Finite crates and boss bags
Generally, any item that functions as a loot box can't be researched. This means you can no longer immediately research all potions and ores after your first ten wooden crates. An optional feature allows boss bags to still be researched, but removes all coin drops from them.

Potion farming for fun and profit
By default, buff potions and common potion ingredients can't be researched, meaning you still have a reason to make herb farms and get better fishing gear! This feature can be disabled in the options, but personally I suggest leaving it on and playing with an infinite buff mod (like Potion Mastery; see suggested mods below) to give yourself something to work towards. This feature does not affect healing potions, which are still fully researchable.

Make money fishing, as the Moon Lord intended
Nearly all fish cannot be researched - which means that they can still be sold for money. This keeps fishing useful beyond the very early game.

Extractinate those ores!
Similarly to fishing crates and boss bags, blocks that can be extractinated cannot be researched. No more infinite ore and gems off your first 100 silt!

Become fabulously wealthy one day?
An optional feature allows platinum coins - and only platinum coins - to still be researched. Exploit your way into becoming a Terraria-billionaire and just like the real world you can buy anything you want, forever!

Calamity Support!
Fully supports Calamity, and additionally disables the ability to research Arsenal Lab materials and stations - this is done because Upgraded Research otherwise completely breaks Calamity's lab progression. A config options allows this to be overridden, and weapons are always researchable anyway.
Note: Infernum support not currently guaranteed; there are probably a few Infernum-specific items that are researchable and shouldn't be.

Compatible with most things
The mod automatically detects items that should be unresearchable, meaning many parts of it are compatible with most other mods. The exception, currently, are common potion ingredients and fish; mod-added fish or ingredients won't be blocked from research. That said, I plan to add manual compatibility with the larger mods.

Suggested Mods
Upgraded Research
I highly, highly suggest using JPAN's Upgraded Research alongside this mod. They are (or should be) fully compatible. Upgraded Research adds many quality of life features to Journey Mode that are honestly hard to live without. Note that any manual overrides you set in Upgraded Research's options will overwrite A Challenging Journey's defaults. Also note that unless you plan to make potions researchable, you should disable Upgraded Research's Omnipotion (I would in general not suggest using the Omnipotion, as it breaks food items pretty heavily by stacking multiple copies of Well Fed).

Magic Storage
Everyone is well familiar with this mod already, but because A Challenging Journey makes a lot of items unresearchable you are likely to find more use from Magic Storage than you would in a normal Journey Mode playthrough. Also, Magic Storage's Storage Configuration Interface will allow you to craft using your researched items inside your magic storage.

Potion Mastery
Any mod that adds infinite buffs that you still have to work for is on-theme for A Challenging Journey, but I'm particularly fond of Potion Mastery for letting you actually use your potions while you are working towards making them infinite. Being able to stack the buff time of potions by drinking several in a row is also highly convenient.

Compatibility Notes
-I suggest not using the researchable boss bags feature with Fargo's Souls Mod unless you also plan to use researchable potion ingredients; the Trojan Squirrel drops herb bags.
-It's likely that mods that allow you to sell items from somewhere other than your inventory in some way may bypass the feature preventing researchable items from being sold for money, but it should work for any item that at any point enters your inventory.

Planned Features
-Support for Thorium herbs and fishes
-Explicit Infernum support
-Option to disable Journey Mode features like godmode or time control, for the weak-willed
-Other features that might be requested...?

Recent Patch Notes
8-10-2024 Version 0.6
-Prismatic lacewing and truffle worm no longer blocked as critters, since they are more of boss summon items
-Permanent powerups (e.g. Vital Crystal) are no longer researchable but also have no sell value
-Vertebrae and rotton chunks are now considered potion ingredients (avoids infinite money exploit)
-Hallowed/Crimson/Corrupt sand and bones are no longer considered ammo
-Ale and bottled honey are no longer considered buff potions (avoids infinite money exploit)
-Pumpkin and cactus are now considered a potion ingredients (avoids infinite money exploit)
-(Calamity) Permanent powerups (e.g. Mushroom Plasma Root) are no longer researchable but also have no sell value

Could you also add an option to multiply research requirements? There's a mod called Increased Research Requirements that does that, but it doesn't seem to work with modded items for example, and I think having that option in your mod would make sense. Thanks!

Yes, yes, yesss, I always felt guilty playing Journey as it's not a creative mode but also using it as normal mode felt wrong with how OP researching is
