描述
The KiHa 32 Series (キハ32形) is a single car DMU operated by JR Shikoku.

Manufactured by JNR for the soon-to-be JR Shikoku in 1987, the KiHa 32 series was developed to replace older diesel cars such as the KiHa 20 series, which still remained in service on rural lines outside of Honshu. The vehicle is an inexpensive solution designed to JNR specifications, incorporating many reused equipment from scrapped cars and parts for busses to reduce costs. It shares a number of similarities with the KiHa 31 series produced for JR Kyushu, and the more powerful KiHa 54 series for Hokkaido and Shikoku. However, compared to previous generations such as the KiHa 40 series, the weight of the vehicles have been reduced significantly by incorporating design elements from the NDC series developed for third sector railways. As a number of rural lines in Shikoku are very quiet, the length of the cars were reduced to 16 meters from the standard 20 meters. One man operation was also supported to reduce operational costs. The total number of cars produced is 21, and were split between the Matsuyama, Tokushima, and Kochi depots. Those belonging to Tokushima was transferred to Matsuyama after the introduction of the 1000 series, and currently the type is used on the Uchiko Line, Yodo Line, and Yosan Line west of Iyo-shi Station. All vehicles are in active service.
