Keihan 10000 Series / 京阪10000系

The 10000 Series (10000系) is a commuter EMU operated by Keihan Electric Railway.

Manufactured between 2002 and 2006, the 10000 series is an improved design of the 7200 series and 9000 series. The car body is similar and shares the same exterior design, with the main difference being a thinner underframe. This is reflected in the slightly lowered floor height, which allows greater barrier-free access. The 10000 series is also the last type to feature the large emergency doors at the front of each cab car, with it's successor the 13000 series adopting the 'crescent moon' design instead. The running equipment is similar to the 800 series on the Keishin Line, although each control circuit is only linked to 2 motors in this type. The new layout prevents 2M2T 4-car trains from being stuck in the steeper sections if one control circuit fails. The interior layout is the same all long seating found on the 7200 series. 24 new cars were produced as 6 4-car trains for Keihan's branch lines. In addition, 4 middle cars from the 9000 series and 2 from the 7200 series was modified and incorporated into the 10000 series in 2017, increasing the total number of cars to 30. These vehicles were added to 2 existing 4-car sets, and thus became 7-car sets. The 4 car sets operate with the 13000 series on the Katano and Uji Lines, while the 7-car sets are primarily used on local services for the main line. They were sometimes operated as substitutes for the 8000 series on limited express runs during the installation of premium cars.
