Welcome to Zombie Survival v1.11 Fix (2008)!



This is a restoration of an VERY old version of GMod Zombie Survival! As I'm an ancient ZS player from 2008, I saw the day when simplicity was replaced by overkill and never forgot about it! JetBoom evolved his awesome gamemode into a very tumultuous and complex gameplay, full of anime girl skins, hats, particles, UI elements and timers, and my simian brain simply couldn't keep up! That said, I always really missed that raw feeling of the old ZS, where I had nowhere to run, almost nothing to protect myself, all the models were the default ones and I didn't have to think about the game's progress, I just had to kill to be automatically rewarded! I confess that ZS v1.11's state is a little too raw, but it's really fun and easy to understand!

So here we are! I want to give my HUGE appreciation and thanks to Yushe and Soldier, who have kept a lot of original files to this day and still maintain a classic ZS server with a proprietary fixed version. Thanks to their kindness in granting my request to reopen the original ZS to the public, I was able to begin my effort on this restoration! After that, all I needed was free time, and over the weekends the work gradually got done.

I consider my changes a Fix to the original gamemode and also a light Adaptation of the code. I really needed to change some details in order to get this old version in a playable state (check out the changelog on GitHub). So, yes... Forget that hammer entity, waves, GUI markers, zombies spawning nests and crazy cages... It's all gone here!

And thank you all very much! I hope you enjoy this gamemode as much as I do.

REQUIREMENTS

1) Counter-Strike: Source downloaded and mounted in GMod OR this addon (CSS should be the right option anyway as many maps need it).

2) Get some maps! You can:
  • use this pack; or
  • select some files from here[github.com]; or
  • get newer maps from the Workshop if they exist.

3) Get the mapvote addon if you want a cool and practical way of changing levels.

4) Get the bot addon if you want better multiplayer and singleplayer games.

Multiplayer & Singleplayer

In order to get good singleplayer and multiplayer matches I added LeadBots support to ZS! (actually Tony Dosk Enginooy did it. Ty dude!). Unfortunately these bots are modern and don't reflect the OG gameplay, that's why they can be disabled and ignored at any time. But originally this old version of ZS only kinda supported singleplayer, as it's just you agains't default zombies using the gamemode mechanics (*if the map has zombie spawners), so clearly it was not enough.

To use bots, everytime you start a singleplayer ZS game make sure the map has a navmesh (you can generate it with the command nav_generate) and use these commands to control the leadbots. The two most important to get started are these:

leadbot_add [1-128] leadbot_kick [name/all]

Even so, keep in mind Multiplayer is currently the main mode for ZS v1.11!

Gameplay Tricks

Some of the gamemode aspects are not obvious, so here some tricks to help you out:
  • All the options are listed in the scoreboard window;
  • You can push other players by pressing E on them;
  • Fast zombies can climb up walls using the secondary attack;
  • You can throw a prop at a player with some zombies by attacking the prop and then looking at a player;
  • Wraiths can throw props with a lot of force!

Settings

In the original ZS v1.11 the settings were supposed be manually changed in gamemode/zs_options.lua, but I exposed most of them through the main menu (when starting a new game) and console commands (check zs_options.lua).

how do I start the game when I'm playing on singleplayer what are the commands or such

like if I choose the ghoul, it says I'll spawn as the said class but it won't spawn me anywhere

for some reason everytime I'm a zombie and I change classes I just can't spawn in and I'm left to wait till the wave ends, once another wave starts I can be a zombie for once but if I die I can't spawn in.

UPDATE

I changed zs_rewards_* commands to set weapon classes and added zs_rewards_*_threshold to control the amount kills needed to achieve a new level.

Adapt your settings, plz. :gmod:

Take a look at their commands, like leadbot_quote. Also if you spawn bots midgame they'll become zombies.
