The pain of all miner people:
Manual drilling is booooring.
On the Official survival servers, where the drills limit is 5 per player, it is difficult to harvest a WHOLE ORE VEIN without manual drilling.
Let's make it drill WIDE and UNATTENDED!

Top features
  • Best for Official servers with 5 drills limit per player - you still can use 6 actually. See below how to obtain 6th drill out of a limit of 5.
  • Spreads the harvesting power of 6 drills onto a hole of 34 m diameter, which is near to ideal for spherical ore veins in Space Engineers.
  • Minimal user interaction - just point to ore, press "Start Drilling" and go Away From Keyboard.

  • No damage accidents possible when using detachable Safe Zone module.

This miner has been continuously evolved 4 years through a lot of iterations, while working in survival, and has a lot of other misc functionalities to make your survival mining as comfort as possible.
This miner does not use AI blocks.
Unfortunately, on official servers the true unattended mining is not possible, because in absence of a player nearby or a control link connection, all grids movements got frozen. Thus AI blocks stop working.
So the solution is to have a player on mining site doing nothing.

Typical Mining operation sequence
  1. Approach and point the miner to the ore deposit. Not closer than 3 m to any surface to avoid issues during conversion to Ship.

    Enabling the Safe Zone
  2. Convert Ship to Station
  3. Detach the Safe Zone (SZ) module by pressing [Ctrl + 3] [4]
  4. Convert Station to Ship
  5. Wait for SZ init done
  6. If the ore deposit is deeper than 15 m, then follow Fast Tunnel Sequence to get closer

    The Mining
  7. Start Drilling: [Ctrl + 1] [4]
  8. Enable Turbo [5] to increase drilling speed. However, for path stability it's recommended to do it after the miner has buried in at least by half of it's body. /!\ Warning /!\ Working Safe Zone is required for Turbo.
    Have Your Time Doing Other Things, While It Digging
    You should still beware of server-side autokick for inactivity, which is 15 min on Official servers.
    After 40 min (default) the drilling will stop. You may adjust this in a timer `miner.Timer Stop Drilling`
    You could use cryo pod to save the character in case of sudden disconnect
  9. Stop Drilling: [4]

    Packing Stuff
  10. Fly out of the hole
  11. Enable the Merge: [Ctrl + 3] [4]
  12. Switch to Docking Control: [6]
  13. Merge with the SZ Module. Cameras could help: [1] [2]
  14. Convert Station to Ship. Rename the grid, because it lost the name on merge
    /!\ Warning /!\ To workaround Space Engineers bugs: enter and exit the cockpit, turn it off and on again using [Y]

Fast Tunnel sequence
Allows to dig a tunnel faster, without harvesting any material.
/!\ Warning /!\ Working Safe Zone is required
  1. Switch mouse to Drill: [Ctrl + 1] [3]
  2. Hold Right Mouse Button (RMB) to start drills in tunnel mode
  3. While holding RMB, press K to open a console, then release RMB, then close the console - the drills will continue working in tunnel mode
  4. Start Drilling, Enable Turbo Drilling: [4] [5]
  5. Stop Drilling when needed: [4]

DLC requirements
Functional blocks - missing them may decrease playability:
  • Sparks of the Future: Ion Thrusters
  • Automatons: Top Mounted camera used for docking, Inset Light for exterior lighting, Access Panel to switch Survival Kit Temporary Off
  • Decorative Pack: Toilet, Couch
  • Warfare 2: Large Reactor, Battery (TODO: replace)
Non functional DLCs usage - may be ignored, except stroked out:
  • Block skin textures
  • Automatons: Safety Sign
  • Decorative Pack 2: Grated Catwalk, Railing, Grated Stairs
  • Sparks of the Future: Neon Tube
  • Wasteland: Viewport, Exhaust Pipe for light
  • Warfare 1: Half Window


Obtaining more drills above the server limit

Drawbacks: when someone will try to transfer PCU to you, any block you have above limit will prevent the transfer.

Well, andrew.wimmer0.. I know people who want to drill, but doesn't use toilets at all!
They would not afford another 10-80 PCU for toilet matrix.
And I already know how to solve this.

I think, I should build a Toilet-Express Drone service to fulfil this diverse nature of the flushing demand xD

A great build mate. The wonderful shape of the drill rig and the turning action is brilliant. Parking is never a problem for you I guess.

I've checked the all DLC blocks used, and removed some minor DLC's from the requirements.
And now you can see the DLC usage explained in the description.
Without non functional DLCs the miner still be playable.

Also, I hope to make a completely non-DLC version, as you suggested :steamthumbsup:

That's an ingenious way of mining I've never seen before, nicely done!
I think I've caught the game screwing up saying DLC packs are used in a blueprint that really aren't. Check into that if you can? Suggestion: leave this one the way it is, post a separate non-DLC version?
