- Adds 30 runes.
- Runes can be combined to upgrade them to more advanced runes. Wandsmithing levels are required for advanced runes.
- Runes have no intrinsic properties but can be used with the encrusting system to encrust items with runewords.
- As of 1.0, there is no way to craft runes aside from combining runes you currently have. This will likely change in future versions.

- Adds 41 runewords.
- Runewords can be added to various kinds of equipment through the encrusting interface if you have the correct runes and know the recipe. Fully half of the recipes are hidden by default, so you will need to find their recipes from bookcases throughout the dungeon. Wandsmithing levels are required to add runewords to items.
- Many runewords have special effects (including 22 new effects).

- Adds 19 new unstable effects for overencrusted items.

- Adds 1 room.
- A "runesmith laboratory" will appear on all floors (and at a maximum of once per floor). This room contains four bookcases and four random runes (weighted towards lesser runes).
