Yokohama Municipal Subway 4000 Series / 横浜市交通局4000形

The 4000 Series (4000形) is a subway vehicle operated by Yokohama Municipal Subway.

A new vehicle type for the Blue Line introduced in 2022, The 4000 series replaced the first batch of the 3000 series (3000A) in service. Designed with the concept of a "seaside urban" feel inspired by Yokohama's status as a well known port city. Yokohama Subway had initially planned to introduce a second batch of the 3000V series, but decided to overhaul the concept into a new type. The interior of the train has vibrant blue flooring and seat covers, while the width of each seat have been increased to improve comfort. The 4000 series runs on standard gauge tracks powered by 750V DC third rail, a relatively uncommon combination in Japan. Arranged in sets of 6 carriage trains, a total of 48 cars have been produced to date. While production of the first batch have concluded, the operator has announced orders for a second batch of 13 trains (78 cars) to be introduced between 2027 and 2030.
