Keihan 9000 Series / 京阪9000系

The 9000 Series (9000系) is a commuter EMU type operated by Keihan Electric Railway since 1997.

Designed as a limited express type vehicle, the 9000 series was produced to relieve congestion on the line during morning peak hours/. It was equipped with a semi-cross seating layout to provide additional seats for long distance commuters. It operated as limited express during rush hour but reverted to standard operation in off peak times. Only 5 sets of 8 car consists were produced, for a total of 40 cars. As the cross seats were not popular with passengers due to their inability to switch direction and unique layout, Keihan converted all sets to long seating after the 3000 series took over all limited express operations. By 2017, 4 sets were modified to 7 cars, they now operate as local or semi-express trains. The 9005F consist remains as 8 cars as of current, it is occasionally pressed into limited express runs when the 8000 series are unavailable due to inspections or modification works.
