Note
I, Raptor Raptr, R4p1r, whichever I may be going by, Am a third party to ASTR and those who developed the MCS system. I reached out to ask for documentation on MCS and was graciously given an explanation by Serpentine to collect and organize this guide. Without the help of the ASTR Discord members, and especially Serpentine, This guide would not have been possible.
MCS Modules
Basics
The Modular Cargo System, henceforth referred to as MCS, was Inspired by Innofreight's InnoWagon[www.innofreight.com] modular freight car. MCS in Stormworks is a modular cargo system based on a grid of connectors with a three block spacing, with each connector being one unit. a 6u container would span six connectors, and an 8u would span eight. Common unit sizes are: 6,8,12,16, and 24 but these are not hard rules, just what is most often found on ASTR vehicles. Standard default Stormworks ISO containers are eight units long and are therefore compatible with the system, as well as any eight unit container being compatible with conventional Stormworks ISO vehicles.

Colors
There are a few common color codes to denote common units on vehicles.
  • Purple - 5.5u
  • Mint - 6u
  • Orange - 8u

Math
I'll keep this breif as to not bore you into a gentle slumber, but there are two equations that form the foundation of the MCS system. These two equations are used to convert blocks into units, and units into blocks.
blocks = ((units -1) * 4 )+ 1
units = ((blocks-1) / 4) + 1

MCS Pallets
MCS Pallets are a small substandard of MCS. MCS pallets share a common side length of seven and are variable in total width. The pallets are designed to attach to two central sliding tracks underneath them with one running in each direction. Frankly, no explanation I can give will do them justice so go look at this one for more details.
