描述
The KiHa 47 Series (キハ47形) is a DMU manufactured by JNR and operated by it's successor companies.

Designed and produced in conjuction with the KiHa 40 and KiHa 48 types, the KiHa 47 is a single cab DMU operated in 2 car sets. The three types are often grouped together as the KiHa 40 series due to their common equipment and background, but are classified as distinct types and do not have the same specifications. After the division of JNR, the KiHa 47 type was inherited by all JR companies except JR Hokkaido, with the largest fleet of 184 cars operated by JR West. JR Central and JR East removed all KiHa 40, 47, and 48 series vehicles in 2016 and 2020 respectively. JR Shikoku plans to phase out the types by 2025, JR West and JR Kyushu has no current plans of withdrawal. The KiHa 47 series inherited by JR West have been re-engined from 1994 to 2000, which improved the output and reliability of the units. The liquid transmission system was also replaced and upgraded, in additional to structural improvement work on the vehicle body. As of current, JR West operates the base 0 and 1000 series variants, with the former having toilets and the latter without. Some cars were modified to have long seats and renumbered the 3000 series, these are deployed on lines with higher rush hour demand. The KiHa 47 series continues to be the most common types on rural unelectrified lines of JR West to this day. JR Shikoku also uses the KiHa 47 series, and have not modified them in any way that would result in a change in car numbers. They are expected to be withdrawn from service starting from 2025. As for JR Kyushu, their sizeable fleet was modified several times in several different ways. Engines were replaced for all units although the model of the new engines varies, air conditioning was also installed soon after privatisation. Around half of the cars owned by JR Kyushu are still in service, and there are no concrete plans to retire the type.
