Taganskaya Metro

One of the more obscure parts of the Russian Metro since the apocalypse is Taganskaya. Part of the metro housed several maintenance areas used for a variety of purposes until the bomb hit. The explosion caused every tunnel connected to it to completely cave in, trapping anyone and anything inside. A small passageway connecting it to Paveletskaya and Lubyanka are the only ways to access it.

10 years ago, it was the area of operations for a group of Reds spying on Hanza and the Spartan Rangers. However as some members started to disappear during work. Hallucinations became a common occurrence and the group soon disbanded, only for them to die exactly 3.5 weeks later. Word of it spread around the Metro and it has garnered a strange reputation as the more haunted locations where your fate guaranteed after 3.5 weeks. Although it has been quickly disproven. It's now considered a strange tourist attraction of sorts.

Personally, I think there is some truth to those hauntings. I used to live in the area for about 5 days before moving to Polyanka. The souls of the unlucky who slowly perished down here. I can still hear them in my sleep. Sometimes they echo from no place and other times it's right next to you.

What a doozy this was to work on. This map started out as several random ideas I threw on the whiteboard after Magna Vitae was finished. I was really excited to work on a Metro map as I love the series and have played the Metro games since either 2017 or 2018. Something about those rusted, old Metro tunnels used as living spaces extremely intrigued me.

Metro 2033 (the original) was used as the inspiration for this map and I knew that I couldn't rely on CS:GO or CSS materials for this one. They were just too clean and did not have the look I wanted. Extracting the textures from Metro 2033 was the way to go for this map. The lighting was by far the hardest part to get right since I wanted this good blend of something similar to Metro yet also have its own flavor and I experimented with many different light sources and light colours to get what I want.

Also, this will be the last original map I will make until the next month or so as my school is currently in exam season and I need to focus more on my revision. I'm not saying I wasn't doing it when I was working on this but man isn't it good to finally finish it so I can hope to the lord above I get at least a B on my Media exam. So right now, I will shift my attention towards updating and remastering older maps. They do need a good polish every now and then.
