UDPATED VERSION : http://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=325482785

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I created an elevator using MechanizedIT's awesome Gears & Things mod. The lift itself is self powered by eight motors. Each motor shaft is connected to a gear which follows a rack on the elevator wall. Two racks on each wall prevent the lift from moving out of alignment. I prefer this design over using pistons since you don't need to reserve extra room for the pistons. It is very stable and can operate at fairly high speeds.

HOW TO USE

- You must have "MechanizedIT's - Gears and Things" mod installed.
- In order to get the actual lift portion to transfer with the elevator shaft, I merged the two together. When loading the blueprint, delete the merge blocks and convert the lift into a large ship.

LIFT BUTTONS

Button 1 - Turn motors on
Button 2 - Turn motors off
Button 3 - Reverse rotation direction of motors

FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS

- I could not find a way to get ramps adjacent to the lift itself; the lift always ended up catching on these blocks.
- Preventing de-syncing of the motors

Yo, does this still work? It sounds like it could easily be used to make a multi-level elevator, which is exactly what I'm looking for. (Though I'm not sure, as the video isn't available any more)

how does the thing spawn from blueprints?

how did you manage that? would love to see a vid of you doing that part.

You have to build the rotor assembly separately from the track and align them afterwards. You can't build them next to each other.

I have been using piston lifts for ages using up to three stacked and used landing gear to keep them stable-ish they work ok but take up a whole lot of room, I have downloaded the Gear mode but I carnt seem to get the Gear to attach to the rotor without the wall rail blocking it? have tried alot of things any idea's what I need to do to get the Gear and wall rails to aline?

how many mods were needed?

I played around with piston lifts. The problem is that you nee at least two blocks per piston, and they are not stable in the direction normal to movement. I used four pistons and some merge blocks to attach a platform, and the first iteration twisted under load and broke apart. After putting up supporting walls and wheels, I got it to work. But it is really bulky and cumbersome. This design is a lot simpler and takes up less space.

has no one actualy just made a piston lift yet?
