Revamped Skybox Textures

This mod may have the single largest impact on the game's visuals, because the skyboxes occupy 90% of the screenspace in-game while flying around.

Details:

• Uses the default nebula imagery so that you are still experiencing the game's art style and not ruining the "pure" experience. This mod does not remove important artwork or content from the game. It's still there, it's just been enhanced.
  
  
• Beautiful sharp stars with adjusted brightness levels and less distracting distributions.
  
  
• The Milky Way is visible. This has a huge impact on directionality in the game. By default, you didn't have much in space to orient yourself to, so when your ship was tilted "upwards" it didn't mean anything. Space is relative and the nebulas weren't good enough for orientation. The Milky Way is perfect for this and it makes the Align hotkey much more exciting. Milky Way imagery is provided by the European Southern Observatory, credited to S. Brunier (ESO-0932a).
  
  
• Aligned an increased star density with the edge-on view of the Milky Way. This furthers your ability to gauge direction even when the Milky Way isn't in view.
  
  
• Gemini is farther away from the center of the Milky Way than Earth is and this was taken into consideration when adjusting the size of the Milky Way in the skybox, but I would not go so far as to say that its sizing is even an educated guess. Seems ok to me.
  
  
• Changed the way nebulas occlude the stars in various spots and created smoother transitions. To me, this gives the nebulas more presence and depth.
  
  
• Fixed some minor artifacts which were in the original nebulas.
  
  
• These skybox textures don't include mipmaps, so even if you have your Starpoint Gemini 2 texture quality settings on low they should look good.
  
  
• Lower system RAM and video RAM usage than default skyboxes.

Mod Compatability: This mod only changes the skybox DDS texture files and nothing else, so any mod which does not modify those is compatible.


Installation:

• Subscribe
  
• Start Starpoint Gemini 2
  
• Go to the Mods section in the menu in-game.
  
• Select RevampedSkyboxTextures and click the "Install Mod" button.
  
• Click the "Installed" checkbox next to the mod name.
  
• Play SPG2. You should not need to restart the game.
  
• NOTE: If it seems like the mod did not download for you, someone reported that restarting Steam helped.

• Extract the .7Z using 7-Zip: http://www.7-zip.org/
  
• Place the RevampedSkyboxTextures.sgm file into your "Starpoint Gemini 2\Mods\" directory.
  
• Start Starpoint Gemini 2
  
• Go to the Mods section in the menu in-game.
  
• Select RevampedSkyboxTextures and click the "Install Mod" button.
  
• Click the "Installed" checkbox next to the mod name.
  
• Play SPG2. You should not need to restart the game.
