Kh-31A Air-launched anti-naval RAMJET cruise missile

This is Soviet-made Kh-31A air-launched anti-naval missile, using an initial rocket motor which gives the missile enough speed to use a RAMJET engine. The missile skims above the water before impacting naval targets.

LAUNCH PROCEDURE:
Upon launch, missile's radio-proximity fuse is enabled, arming the explosives.
The rocket engine accelerates the missile during 4 seconds to a speed of ~3000-3400 km/h (visual orange light).
The RAMJET kick in after 4 seconds (audible noise) and powers the missile.
The RAMJET functions effectively for ~200 seconds, providing thrust to the missile with slight decceleration.
The control surfaces behind the stabilators function to maneuver the missile.
The missile usually descends to very low altitudes above the water after launch and is nearly skimming the water before impact.
