Tsukuba Express TX-3000 Series / 首都圏新都市鉄道TX-3000系

The TX-3000 Series (TX-3000系) is an EMU operated by the Metropolitan Intercity Railway Company on the Tsukuba Express commuter line.

In service since 2020, the TX-3000 Series is the latest type introduced to the Tsukuba Express line, and the only new train to appear after the line's opening in 2005. It was manufactured largely in response to increasing demand as the line's opening led to rapid urbanization along the route, with passenger numbers more than doubling by 2016. 30 cars in 5 6-car consists were thus produced to increase the frequency of service along the line. The TX-3000 type is AC/DC dual voltage compatible as required in order to operate north of Moriya Station, and the seating layout was changed to long seats in all cars to better handle congestion. Additional hand straps were also placed compared to conventional cars to allow more passengers to stand safety. The series operate interchangeably with the TX-2000 sets and they are used on all service levels on the line (local, sub-rapid, rapid, and commuter rapid).
