Jagdtiger

"Jagdtiger" (German Jagdtiger), the full official name of Panzerjäger Tiger Ausf. B is a German self—propelled artillery installation of the Second World War. According to the German departmental designation system of military equipment, it belongs to the type of anti—tank "Panzerjäger" (German panzer - tank, German. jäger — hunter), bore the index Sd.Kfz.186. It was developed in 1942-1944 on the chassis of the Tiger II heavy tank.

The Jagdtiger was mass-produced from 1944 to 1945, however, due to interruptions in the supply of materials and the destruction of factories by aerial bombing, only 81 self-propelled guns of this type out of 150 ordered were delivered. Due to the small number of vehicles produced, their unreliability and the constant problem of lack of fuel for them, the combat use of the Jagdtigers was limited and did not affect the course of the war, although those vehicles that nevertheless managed to engage in battle demonstrated the ability to confidently destroy any of the armored vehicles of the anti-Hitler coalition countries participating in the war, while while remaining practically invulnerable to their fire in the frontal projection. Nevertheless, in the end, many of these few self-propelled guns were simply abandoned by their crews after using up ammunition, fuel, after a breakdown, or as a result of direct enemy attacks from the air.
