56冲是我国于上世纪50年代获得苏联批准仿制AK-47而制造的步枪，之所以被命名为56式冲锋枪，是因为1956年定型的56式半自动步枪是用以取代53式骑枪的，充当的是“步枪”的角色，而56冲是替换54式冲锋枪（仿PPS-43）的，担当的就是“冲锋枪”的角色，但56冲本质上是一款突击步枪。

The Type 56 assault rifle is a Chinese-made rifle manufactured in the 1950s with approval from the Soviet Union to copy the AK-47. It is named a submachine gun because the Type 56 semi-automatic rifle, which was finalized in 1956, was used to replace the Type 53 carbine and served as a "rifle". The Type 56 assault rifle, on the other hand, replaced the Type 54 submachine gun (a copy of the PPS-43) and served as a "submachine gun". However, the Type 56 assault rifle is essentially an assault rifle.
