Thanks to Lord of Liberty, Haruka, alandalusi7, and everybody who’s previously contributed pictures to those mods— they have done the vast majority of the work, amassing ~370 unique terrain pictures between them. I've only displayed the pictures that I've added, see the previous iterations linked below for more pictures.

Updated for 1.37

English, German, French, and Spanish localisation supported.

What's new:

-Regional and urban terrain pictures covering another ~550 provinces, primarily focused on regional mountain and jungle terrain

-New city paintings for Europe, India, Africa, and Southeast Asia— Europe, China, Japan, Korea, the Arab world, and Persia were extensively covered in previous mods

-AI-generated recreations of ‘lost’ cities (Vijayanagar; Ayutthaya; Djenné; Aksum; Krong Chaktomuk; Trowulan; Kathmandu; Xieng Thong; Tabriz; Nishapur)

-New savannah and coastal desert pictures

-Unactivated colonial, Nahuatl, Mayan, and Incan city pictures


Other changes:

-The vanilla generic pictures have been restored though several previous ones have been kept where they made sense

-Colony terrain pictures have been fixed

-The mod is purely aesthetic and has no effect on gameplay

-The simple terrain map mode displays all the correct colours and hovering over a province now tells you the terrain type instead of the name of the city/province/sprite


Guide on activating and deactivating colonial, Nahuatl, Mayan, and Incan city pictures:

TLDR; Go to 3177583165 -> map -> terrain.txt and remove/add ‘#’ infront of province id’s to activate/deactivate that city picture for that province (everything is clearly labelled).

For Tropical Andes/ Incan cities, Dry Andes/ Incan shepherd, Amazon Rainforest/ Kuelap, Nojpetén/ Tikal, and Tenochtitlan/ Mexico City, be careful two pictures aren’t activated for one province as this will cause the terrain picture to revert back to vanilla.

Compatibility:

The mod is not compatible with achievements due to how unique terrain pictures are added— it is not possible to make this work without editing the encrypted core game files.

In short, it works perfectly with the vast majority of mods that do not also edit/add terrain pictures. It is incompatible with mods that add new provinces (i.e. MEIOU & Taxes; Extended Timeline).

Enabling the mod alongside Europa Expanded is not recommended if you plan to play as one of the following nations: Arabia minors, Persia, Georgia, Inca minors, Maya minors, Netherlands, Germany, Hungary, Theodoro, and Mongol Hordes.
The relevant content will be reverted back to vanilla and certain terrain-specific missions/ estate privileges may not work as intended.






I mainly made this mod for my own personal use, feel free to adopt it or use my pictures (they're AI-generated). I do not own any of these pictures and am happy to take them down upon the owner’s request.

Yep, I think it's compatible with all mods except for those mentioned above.

Ofcourse, if it's not too spammy you might want to include the previous modders as well, in total I've only added 130 out of ~500 pictures.

I'd hold off for day or two as I'm about to update it with fixed mission localisation and new pictures-- I'm currently stuck on how to get conquest progress counters to work in custom trigger tooltip localisation.

Both the terrain and base game monument will have been given the same tag, I'll fix it.
