As an upgrade to the Bosphorus line of ships, the Mk2 goes above and beyond to modernize the fleet without increasing the program cost by instead introducing a new sponsor program; For any organization that sponsors the commissioning of a Bosphorus II series ship, said ship can be given vetted missions by the aforementioned organization for aspects like trade, defense, or even diplomatic sorties.

This new initiative was an effort to upgrade the production line and existing ships without inflating the program cost so that the ships in service can perform further duties in a fleet environment while only needing to pull back to fulfill special requests for a few weeks at a time.

The ship itself was fitted with much newer warp nacelles and expanded the impulse manifolds for increased subwarp speeds to better accommodate requests to not use warp extensively in protected space, as well as other various improvements to crew accommodations and onboard equipment.
