Gulf Tower Art Deco Skyscraper (40 Story - Pittsburgh)

描述
Build me a future, splendid and graceful!

Pittsburgh had long been the smelter of America. By the dawn of the Twentieth Century, the gritty industrial potential of Western Appalachia began to bring tremendous economic prosperity to the burgeoning river city. Strategic placement at the intersection of the mighty Monongahela, Allegheny, and Ohio Rivers combined together with rich mountainous coal veins and proximity to Eastern trade hubs. This confluence led to financial interest from a variety of new investors.

The aftermath of the First World War was fertile ground for bold new ideologies. The failures of the Old World were laid bare, and young minds were eager to explore the beneficial side of technology. In parts of the world, economic desolation led to hate or fomented revolution. In the United States - mostly untouched by the deleterious effects of war - scientists and engineers pioneered a radical mindset of technological optimism. The Machine Age[www.brooklynmuseum.org] and the Jazz Age[www.pbs.org] merged to birth a style not merely characteristic of the era, but epitomic of it: the Art Deco movement[greige.co].

Enter the Gulf Oil corporation. In the midst of a late-1920s boom in both gasoline production and demand, executives became desirous of an efficient corporate apparatus. Additionally, they believed investors and the public would be wowed by a showy display of audacious architecture that adequately represented the era of the automobile.

Pittsburgh was the historic home of the Mellon family, whom maintained a controlling interest in Gulf. While an (equally) famous Gulf Tower was built in Houston to please Gulf's Texan wildcatters, Pittsburgh was the obvious choice for an impressive new tower.

And impressive it was. Rising starkly against the soot-covered bricks[www.pittsburghmagazine.com] of the Lower Hill/Downtown border, the Gulf Tower seemed the highest peak of a new mountain range consisting entirely of stone, glass, and steel. It defended the tallest building title in Bridge City until the mighty US Steel Tower's completion in the 70's, representing the first wave of several "Renaissance" redevelopments. It remains a sleek Art Deco obelisk to this day.

Bring the streamlined simplicity of the Gulf Tower home today!

Description

Included in this pack are two slightly different versions of the Gulf building. One is as it appears in real life, with four-story "wings" on the left and right sides of the main entrance. The other (slightly lower tri) version features a perfectly square base.

Both versions are 40 stories (177 meters/582 feet) and occupy a 4x4 square. They are office subtypes.

The geometric beauty of this modern capitalist temple cannot be overstated. Vertical ribbons of windows starkly contrast brilliant marble in a stepped wedding-cake fashion. The pyramidal crown is modeled after the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus. It is crested by a lighted beacon, ready to signal the dominance of man's efforts and all his energies to airships passing through smoggy clouds. A true Tower of Babel, defiant to the heavens and all the Old Ways.

Fatefully ironic that it completed construction in 1932, in the throes of the Great Depression and boiler period of global fascist movements. The symbol of financial power towering over the Hill's slums and Hoovervilles must have seemed a middle finger (or perhaps elitist phallus) to the huddled masses below.

The ground level is recolorable.

Dependencies (none)

That's correct. No dependencies. No props at all. It's a self-sufficient wonder.

Hey! I have a Youtube channel now with various C:S tutorials. From in-game detailing to asset creation and import, subscribe to learn how to bring your very own assets into your very own game (and -hopefully - share with the rest of us!)

2nd video will show the process of making one of these assets in Blender and importing it into the game.

So, there are lights for the main model, just not the LOD. When I try to add LOD lights, the entire asset illuminates, no matter the _lod_i map used. C'est la vie.

No lights?

Yeah, due to game restrictions, I cannot use mods in the editor. And even if I try to use a template of a unique building with a bigger footprint, the same problem occurs.

So, anyone had full permission to reupload the asset in form that fits to the workshop - I cannot.

I'd recommend using MoveIt or Procedural Objects to hand move it.

It outgrows and extends beyond it's plot size, running into other buildings.
