描述
Ever wanted to command a legion of mechs but have the issue that all your human pilots are exhausted? Suffered immense losses and the once-a-week clone production is too slow to outfit a team? Have moral issues with forcibly cyberizing your pilots but still want to benefit from cyborgs? Get drone pilots today!

Adds a new research item to create drone pilots. Drone pilots can be manufactured and have the same mechanics as cyborgs. As they start at level 0 and cannot gain experience, they can never gain skills.

Is this balanced? Mmm, probably not? It allows you to freely mass produce cyborg pilots and effectively never have to worry about combat losses. Regardless, I did try to balance it out by the long research time (14 days) and the 7 day production time. If you beeline researching this it would take 41 days total, about mid-late game by my reckoning, which should be fine. Fluff-wise it's the scientists collecting a bunch of piloting data from over a long period of time, with the long manufacturing time being the time spent imparting the newly developed AI with all the data and testing it.

Bonus: If you want a more sleek/feminine drone portrait, go to the mod's folder (C:\Users\[USER]\AppData\Local\Mech_Engineer\mods\Robot Pilots Mod), copy the folder labeled "Robot Pilots Mod - Alt" and paste it into the mods folder. It should appear in your mod selection screen. If this mod updates, you'll need to manually update the alt version by repeating this process.

8-7-2024: Fixed the production sprite persistence issue! The fix should also fix any saves that got borked by the bug too, so you don't need to start a new game!

7-7-2024: Fixed a long standing bug with the research time. Sorry, it's mean to take 14 days, not 1!

6-21-2024: Fixed a crash issue. Fixed persistence issue.

5-21-2024: Updated for 1.0! Still working on the persistence issue unfortunately.

UPDATE: Fixed the persistence issue! The fix should also fix any saves that got borked by the bug too, so you don't need to start a new game!

@Armedwithpuns Nah I checked, I can replicate the bug. I *think* I have an idea to fix it, but I'm having trouble with it.

I do have your mech pack loaded higher on the list, so maybe it's overriding some important changes?

I really like the idea of this mod, however I tried to manufacture them in the production tab, and then passed a day I now get this error when trying to pass more days or even look at the production tab at all:
