Erie Canal

Erie Canal resides in one of the industrialized districts of City 17. What used to be water is now replaced with toxic sludge, trash and gravel. Probably from one of the AirEx's nearby. People that have fled the urban sectors now sleep here, either in the canals itself or within one of the many old maintenance tunnels. God knows what it's like down there, and that's saying something.

This map started very quickly after I published Vertigo View. It took a total of 7 days from blockout to full completion. After all, there aren't that many original beta-inspired maps out here on the workshop. And plus, I wanted to experiment further with the 2001 - 2002 era aesthetics. It is an entire league of its own compared to everything else I've worked on thus far. To do this, I basically looked over hundreds and hundreds of the leaked vmf's in the wc-mappack, looked at concept art, gameplay footage, even played the beta itself to get a feel.

This map is very heavily based on the cut wasteland chapter and canals chapter. The drab yellow and blue atmosphere was replaced with a more saturated one. I was basically mixing and matching different aesthetics and concepts from the beta into one map and hope they stick. The old cylindrical Citadel (which is my favourite out of all Citadel designs) was a pain to find for some reason and I ended up resorting to watching Rad Haz's videos on City 17 to find the exact .vmf with this design. Luckily, it worked. And this map couldn't have worked without it.
