How to fix Morrowind
Morrowind has several things about how the game functions that likely will not be tolerated by someone who has played more modern games. This guide is does not exist to show you how to fix every single one of them. It is likely that a new player coming to Morrowind will not encounter most of them.

This guide exists to show you how to fix the two problems that exist at the very beginning of the game that will prevent a new player from approaching Morrowind from the beginning.

A: Health gain at level up
B: Hit chance
Optional: Magicka regeneration

Let's tackle Health gain. This is very easy to fix whether you are playing with the original engine or OpenMW. After you have finished creating a character do the following.

Step 1: Open the console
Step 2: type in "player-> set endurance 100"
Optional: Type in "player-> set health 100"

Why do we need to do this?

In Morrowind, your starting health and how much you get per level up depends on your endurance. If you have low endurance you will start with less health and you get less per level up. For each level up you do with low endurance you will continue to get less health and the game never corrects this if you later level up your endurance to a higher number. This means that your low endurance at the start lingers in your character. For many player this is unacceptable.

Without dealing with the console you would be forced to run around with a spear; whether your character would want to use a spear or not; looking for enemies to kill with it so you can get your endurance to 100 quickly so as to not miss out on health gain. A veteran player will know how to survive with low health and never pick up a spear but someone just starting out is going to have a hard time and they might want to give up on the game because of this. So let's fix this so someone new coming to Morrowind can get on with playing the game instead of trying to game the system of how to level up.

Optional: Magicka regeneration

While we are talking about the console, we can fix magicka regeneration as well. New players just coming to Morrowind for the first time will expect megicka and health regeneration and will be put off from Morrowind when they discover that it's not there. But this is easily fixed without mods.

Console: player-> addspell regen_imperfect

This adds a spell to the player that gives you very slow magicka and health regeneration. We're actually stealing this spell from a high level enemy you might face later in the game if you make it that far. If he can have it, then I say the lore allows me to have it as well. Again, yes many veterans of Morrowind will tell you that magicka and health aren't supposed to regenerate in Morrowind. Please guys, let the new players experience the game with health regeneration and get into the story before you send them to die by mudcrab.

Hit Chance

This is the difficult one. There are two approaches we can use.

Console
Mods

If you decide to use the console, you can just put all of your attributes and all of your weapon skills at 100. You will then have at least a 90% chance to hit with the weapon. Then just make sure you create a custom class with no weapon skills so you can still level up.

That does feel a lot like cheating and I bet new players will think so too.

So a mods option. For this you don't need to download any mod off of the internet. This is a super easy thing to fix yourself. It can be done with both the original construction set as well as the OpenMW editor.

Open up the game files in the editor. Find the birthsigns. Look for the warrior. That sign gives you an extra 10% hit chance. Change it to 100. Done.

But maybe you want to be able to use other birthsigns so you can experience other ways of playing. Ok. Look at how the extra hit chance was created in the warrior sign. It is just a fortify attribute - hit chance - number sequence. Go to every birthsign, add a line, and put that in. Now every birthsign will give you 100 % hit chance. Right now I'm playing with a mage and he has the mage sign and he has 100% hit chance.

Save your mod and add it to your game. Start a new character and there you go. Your weapons will level up very quickly but it won't feel like cheating because you still have to actually get a weapon and use it.

Now, after we have fixed the stuff that keeps new players away from this great game, go play it and find the other stuff that is annoying but we're going to keep because we've put in enough time to understand the game by that point.

@Goddess Akai Mods. I recommend OpenMW as it fixes pretty much any tech problem i've had with the game.

Is there any way to increase the game's resolution to something like 1080p?
