Don't take my few minutes play on Steam as my overall game time in Morrowind. I'm using OpenMW to play and steam don't track those hours of gameplay

With that Being Said now lets start:

Morrowind is really an immersive RPG games i've ever played even dare i say on fully modded skyrim, morrowind arguably is the winner. let me describe it down below

1. The World building in this game is insane like its really good and detailed, from the moment you set off the ship, you are in alien world filled with strange fauna and flora it, slowly you speak to the NPC and learn as they explain to you as you are an outlander and know nothing about the land you've been sent to. also you can see the developer really put their work to the heart by seeing all of the items you found in the game are put in handcrafted way. you never know you might found an axe just inside a tall of hollow stump of tree or maybe a small ring under the water of collapsed cave. it makes exploration is such a rewarding experience
   
   
2. The Quest Design is not what i've expected from a game that come from 2002, it doesn't have compass with quest marker where you can just follow it to quest location, instead you will be given an instruction of direction on how to get to your quest location and all of that recorded in your own personal journal, for example at the beginning of the game i'm quotting directly from the NPC :

   That is the only intro of the main quest and all quest including sidequest are designed like this, this is probably my favorited aspect of the game, it enhances your immersive by a miles, and its also encourages the player to explore because you will stumbled upon a cave or a tomb along the way when you want to get to your quest location makes you sidetracked.
   
   
3. Fast Travelling System, unlike skyrim or oblivion where you can fast travel to already discovered location from your map, morrowind is different. Instead you have multiple ways to fast travel, you can use silt strider, use boats or by magic but each also has their own path of travelling for example silt strider can only travel you to a place where its still on same island like example from balmora to Ald'ruhn, boat in the other way can only travel you to other place in coastal settlements for example seyda neen to tel Mora and lastly the magic called mark and recalled can be used to go anywhere but you need to mark it first so you can travel to your marked area. This actually make you need planned your way to get to certain place it like what us to do when we want to go somewhere and again it is the most immersive way to fast travel mechanic in video games that i've ever found on any games i've played.

those were only few of many good things we can found in morrowinds, and there more to explain but it will take so much time to put in here. But morrowind also has cons here i what i think the cons that you should aware of:

1. Sound, in my honest opinion,the sound in morrowind is not great and dated indeed like for example the magic sound, the attacking sound and also there is little voice acting in this game but one thing i might say good is jeremy soule soundtrack is heaven, but all of this cons can be fixed with mods.
   
   
2. Text based Dialogue, personally i don't have issues with text based dialogue since i like reading but i'm aware for some people in 2025 reading a paraghraph wall of text might be exhausting and annoying, so this might something that you want to be aware of before buy morrowind, and yes also there is a mod out there that make the dialogue have voiced but its using AI Generated voice, if you cool by that go ahead and try to use it
   
   
3. Animation, don't expect a fully good and smooth animation from a 2002 game but if you like me and using OpenMW engine, it has built in smooth animation make animation in the game feels decent and nice

So that is all my view on the game, mind you this is my personal opinion and like me who just tired or bored from skyrim or oblivion because you already explored all the quest and location in game and need some fresh breath in Elder scrolls game or exploration RPG game, i highly recommend to start morrowind. Also please just use OpenMW its good, trust me

gameplay is so outdated and yet the worldbuilding is so good so i keep playing despite the pain. ive put 40 hours in and still dont understand at least 2/3 of the game mechanics

Still plays pretty good with OpenMW as a nice wrapper. Completed it for the first time in 2025 with the aid of a friendly dog and some jumping scrolls. I have no idea what the story was but it was a wild acid trip of a time, which explains the mushrooms everywhere.
