SS Rex

Here is the SS Rex of the Italian Line!

She was originally built for the Navigazione Generale Italiana (NGI) as SS Guglielmo Marconi, but before she could be built, NGI merged with Lloyd Sabaudo and Cosulich Line to form the Italian Line, and she was renamed Rex. Rex was completed in 1931 alongside her running mate Conte di Savoia, and were some of the most beautiful ships ever built at the time. In 1933, Rex captured the Blue Riband for Italy from the German liner SS Bremen. Rex and Savoia would serve as passenger ship until Italy entered World War 2 in June 1940, when they were temporarily laid up. Rex was laid up in Genoa before being moved to Trieste and Pola to prevent her from being damaged in the war. On September 8th, 1944, Rex was attacked by the Royal Air Force of Koper (Capodistria) while under tow, and sank in the shallow waters on her port side. Her wreck was scrapped on site in 1950.
